DNA posses the genetic codes that give cells information about making a specific protein. This protein is used to make the part whether it's skin or specialised cell. Anything! That's DNA is important.

Because DNA is the basic instructions for life.
Lets say you were trying to build a computer but didn't have any instructions, just the parts necessary. Would you be able to do it? No, not really and all the "computer" would just be a big mess of parts but with the "instructions" (DNA) you can build the computer and make it work and function properly. DNA is responsible for nearly everything somehow. Engery and genes and reproduction and cell function. We would be surely lost without it

The central dogma of genetics is that DNA codes for RNA which then codes for protein.

Proteins are a majority of what compose living beings thus everything "starts" with DNA.

DNA tells how to make all the cell's proteins and the proteins handle everything else.
