Is nature good or evil?
Humans are nature. Everything else is culture.

Culture cares about continuity and permanence and will do what ever is necessary to ensure both. Is that good or evil?

I guess it depends on which side of the 'what ever is necessary' you fall on. One side is seen as asset and the other obstacle.

According to a highly unlikely source that most people would even consider opening: We are neutral.

To wrap my previous malevolent view of the universe(Everyone is evil, taught by many religions), I used the metaphor of fire.

Fire is neutral until it is applied. The same spark that got your fireplace going this morning, is the same spark that could of started a forest on fire.

Some Atheist however, take the polar opposite of some believers, and suggest 'human nature is basicly good'. And some of these, though not all, become just as antagonistic as some of the believers do. Committing arson for rational-reasons, is still committing arson, wether you call it good or evil and wether you make that judgement as an atheist or a believer.

Human-nature neutral in capacity, Consequent, only in its application.

Neither. I believe that human nature is basically selfish (though it doesn't necessarily have to be so).

Some people are more overtly selfish and only do 'evil' deeds.

Some people realize that being 'good' to others will eventually lead to others being 'good' to them so its a worthwhile investment.

The best kind of human recognizes that being 'good' is valuable for its own sake and this is the highest form of ethical development.

Ultimately though I don't think that people are all good or all evil, they are just people doing good or bad things. (i.e. - I believ that even the best among us make mistakes and even the worst among us have some good qualities)

Hey!

Human nature is basically selfish. We're born selfish, demanding that our needs be met come hell or high water, and we have to spend the rest of our lives fighting it.

Now, as to whether or not human nature is basically evil, or basically good. Humanity, as a whole, bends towards things that are bad than the things that are good. But true evil? Depends on the person.

I know that sounds kind of confusing, but it's my take on humanity.

Human Nature, is based upon "Self Preservation".
True there are some, who disregard what is 'Self Preservation' in the absolute sense, and take "Chances".

Their Mental State, is never called into question, Why I Don't Know.

There are those, who do something not based upon 'Self Preservation'. Often this is aimed, at reaching their own goal.

So 'Good or Evil' has nothing to do with it, it is all about What I can Get, and we will. Do all we can, with the parameters of 'Self Preservation to attain that.
