why should i reside within
a heart that has closed its door to me
why should I roam as a lonley cloud
in search of solace in a lonely land

Why should I live life forlorn
spent with pain and abject scorn
a heart rendered war weary and worn
How could I live with a spirit torn

Why should I weep for one sole tear
drunk to allay this thirsting for life
why would i regret its falling upon
a heart of stone and a love unwon......

It sounds like a passage (Chapter 13) from Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass":

"STRANGER! if you, passing, meet me, and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me?
And why should I not speak to you?"
