This may seem like a silly question, but I want to be extra careful. Have you ever had to submit an application fee twice (once when applying to the graduate school and twice when applying to the department)? Most places allow you to pay online, but I've noticed that they also mention submitting checks.

You usually just pay for applying for the school. Then you send all the transcripts, test scores, and letters of rec to the specific department that you are applying to. You shuold not have to pay a second time when applying to particular program. The only time i could see you paying more than once is if you're applying to different programs. So if you were applying to say, a master's in educational psychology and also to a master's program in education, you will probably have to pay twice, once for each application. But double check with your program. There should be an advisor listed, and they are always very helpful, even with the questions that we might consider to be silly. Dont be scared to be 100%, because you can never be too safe! And good luck with grad school!

I've never known a school to require two fees for the same application submission.

Hate to say it, but are you sure you're up for grad school?! If you apply online, that should be it, unless your school just wants to rape you for fees at every turn.

no as long as you are sure the school is legitimate you'll have no problem.
