My guess is it's in reaction or response to certain failings of feminism, such as the reverse discrimination caused by quotas in affirmative action.

Also, I think that some men just don't like the changes they are seeing in society. They want traditional gender role expectations to remain the same.

And some probably see that there really are issues that men have, that are unique to men, that no one's really been addressing until now, and they want to bring those issues to public awareness, and work out resolutions to those issues.

Men were on average physically larger, more active and tended to be the ones that provided for the tribe. Women on the other hand were reproductive units that stayed near the encampment and gathered roots and berries and kept the home area in tact..
