ok, I can pretty much use any type of material. However, i cannot use parachutes or balloons, anything liek that. the shape in the end must be a common 3d shape like a sphere, cube, rectangle, cone, pyramid.....
ok, we can use anything but cannot glue anything to the egg. we can layer it with anything. Our grade depends on the size of the container. The size of a can of soda is an A, the bigger the lower the grade. anybody know?

Hmmm...soda can size...

Take two soda cans. Cut the ends off of each; you now have two cans open on one end and closed on the other. Drill small holes in the middle of the closed ends. Get a short length of small pantyhose. Run it through the inside of one can, out the hole, and knot it so it will stay in place. Slip the egg inside the hose. Thread the other end through the other can and telescope the cans together. Pull the hose good and tight and tie it off. Secure the assembly with duct tape. You now have a carrier about the size of a soda can, closed on each end, with the egg suspended in a tight elastic coccoon. It should survive a considerable drop.

I've used this technique successfully many times - using 2- and 3-liter pop bottles. Never tried it with a soda can, but it should work. Hint - buy the smallest eggs you can; they're harder to break than large eggs.

We did this experiment in school, too. Unfortunately, that was probably about 20 years ago and I don't remember what worked and what didn't.

You need material that absorbs shock evenly and is somewhat flexible but retains its shape, like foam. Make sure your container seals well and can't pop open.

You could wrap it in "eggshell" foam (foam with even ridges and valleys) and put it in a corrugated cardboard box or 6-egg egg carton (WELL taped).

Take an empty tin can and fill it half way with jello. Let the jello set up in the fridge and then place the egg ontop the jello. Then pour jello to the top of the can, and bend the lid back down. Cool it to set the last of the jello, and then drop it from two stories.

Ohhh I had to do that in high school too, 20 yrs. ago. Perhaps the worst one was the guy who suspended it in cooking oil in a box. When it landed, oil went everywhere, especially on the teacher's pants! Good theory but bad container. I can't remember what I did. Pack it in something soft in a lightweight container.
