Hey the meaning is powerful and its very unique. It stands out from the rest and you can tell your son all about the meaning. If you truly like it then you should choose it, don't worry about the difficulty.

Personally, I don't think you should name him Pausanias or, at least if you like the name THAT much, try to think of something else and make Pausanias the middle name.

I can see your trying to go for a strong name, what about Alexander which means "defender of man kind"? Like I
said, if you really like Pausanias and don't want to exclude it you could go for Alexander Pausanias (Defender of mankind, the one who can stop sorrow.)

ETA:

Well, okay! George is a very nice name too. It's all up to you in
the end anyway. You also could always nickname the child "Alex", he needn't go by his full name all the time, plus it's easier to pronounce.

I think maybe as a middle name it's difficult as a 1st name, you have to think kids can be cruel you don't want him to be bully ed at school.

I think you should use it for a middle name and then you can call him that AND he can have an extra name that his ignorant fellow students wouldn't tease him about.

I think that if you really truely like that name and think that it would be best for your son whether others will like it or not...GO WITH IT!!! you could even call him "paus" as a nickname :) or anything else you like. i really like the meaning of the name also. follow your heart. do what you like, like what you do!!
