Microfilaments are solid and have a very tiny diameter. They make up the spiderweb-like support structure that is throughout the cytoplasm.

Intermediate filaments are solid and have a larger diameter than microfilaments. They can move; microfilaments cannot. These may help hold the nucleus in place, and they have a pretty good variety of other functions in cells, depending on what kind of cell it is. They sometimes help form cell junctions.

Microtubules are hollow (tubular) and have a comparatively larger diameter. They make up structures such as spindles, centrioles, cilia, and flagella. They can move the entire cell, wave around on the outside of the cell to move materials along the surface, pull the chromosomes around in a cell that is undergoing mitosis or meiosis, ...
