Shouldn't they have had home field advantage throughout the playoffs, since they had the best record?

Alright they just explained it on the NFL network. Home field advantage rotated by Division, that year it was the AFC Central's turn. Thanks for all your answers guys, that one had me stumped.

I think the Dolphins were 13-0 during the regular season; why would they only play 2 playoff games? In any case i have no answer for this other than weather.

Nope at that time there wasn't Home Field advantage as we know it. Strange isn't it? Can't remember how they picked which city to play in.
