The oil light will come on if there is a loss of oil pressure in the engine. which could be as a resut of not enough oil in the engine or a bad oil pump. It cant be a stopped up oil filter because if that was the case, you would have extremely high oil pressure, and the light coming on does not mean you need a oil change. The most common problem with this is that the oil pressure sending unit is bad or the wire has come loose or been burnt in two. Take the vehicle to a reputable mechanic and im sure that you are going to find out that it is just the sending unit needs to be replaced.

Could be simple or could be dangerous. If it is just low on oil, then add some until it is at the proper level. Then you need to find out why you lost the oil to begin with.

It could just be a bad transducer, in that case just replace the part.

Possibly, the oil pump went out and you are not getting the pressure that you should or the volume. This will cause you to ruin the engine, if it is not taken care of.

Check the oil level, if it is good, then have the car towed to a repair shop and have them look at it. That would be better than running the engine and doing damage to it.

good luck.

Check the oil. If it's low, add some. If it's not, take the car to a mechanic.
