Are there any alternatives?

nope - not necessary. I strongly prefer not to use it.

I've read about methods of shaving, partly because I have sensitive skin and I've never enjoyed doing it. I've heard that the best thing to do after shaving is to rinse off the remaining shaving creme and leave your face wet; don't wipe it with a towel as this can cause irritation. Letting it slowly air dry might help your skin recover from the sharp razer more.

Most after shaves have alcohol that basically help with any small cuts (ouch) and pull the skin back together. It also dries out your face, which in the winter with the dry air can be damaging. Just put on some type of lotion if you have some irritation.

No - aftershave is not really necessary. It is primarily used to desensitize your skin after shaving with a bladed razor. For me, I shave right before I get into the shower, and I make sure to wash my face. No itch and no senstive skin.

If you shave but not shower right after, try using a warm facecloth on your face for a few moments. That does just as well as aftershave without the 'burn'.

Good luck
