What is College Football's most legendary and historic program ever? For me, Notre Dame comes to mind, because they have the most National Championships ever and the most Heisman winners ever. Also, some people would say Michigan because they have the most all time wins, but theyve been playing for longer than alot of the other programs, and most of thier wins and National Championships came before 1950. They only have 3 Heisman winners too. They claim 11 Titles, but most people recognize 5-7.
I would say its between Ohio State and Notre Dame, because Ohio State has 7 Championships that they recognize, and another 7 that have been awarded to them that the University does not even recognize. So, counting those, thats 14. Notre Dame has 13. Ohio State has 6 Heisman winners, with Archie Griffin winning it twice, and Notre Dame has 7 winners.
I thinks its Notre Dame, what do you think?

I have to agree. Both Notre Dame and Ohio St. are amazing programs. As a Mizzou fan, I have to say that those are the programs I would want my team modeled after.

Here is my thing about Notre Dame, they're considered the best program ever and why they have 13 bowls win and 15 losses. But they won 11 national title out of their 13 bowls win, wow. My second place is USC with 11 national title and 29 bowls win and 16 losses, they won the 2nd most bowls ever after BAMA but they will catch BAMA after this year. My 3rd choice would be Alabama, they won 13 National title and 30 bowls win. My 4th choice is OU with 7 National title 3 Heisman's. My 5th choice is Ohio St. University 7 National title and 7 Heisman winners

The Irish no question, its unfortunate but they have won the national title way more then any other program. Ohio state is very good and today has the better program and they may put more players in the NFL but Notre Dame would have to be the yankees of college football. Not being in a division is tough on the irish in this day and age they play some of the best teams in all the divisions. At the rate we are going now givin ohio states track record the answer to this question might be Theee Ohio State Buckeyes ten years from now

As much as it pains me to say this because I despise them so much is Notre Dame. A close second and third would be Ohio St. and USC respectively. You probably could throw Michigan, Texas and Oklahoma in the mix as well. Texas was good for a long time and then faded away for many years but has had a resurgence the last 6 - 7 years. Overall though, I would have to be honest and say Notre Dame.

I agree about Notre Dame, but a few of your facts are incorrect.
1. USC & Ohio State also have 7 Heisman Trophies. USC's are: Mike Garrett, OJ Simpson, Charles White, Marcus Allen, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinhart, & Reggie Bush
2. USC has 11 National Titles as well.
3. USC puts more players in the NFL then any other team.
At any rate, I agree with you about Notre Dame, based upon history.
According to a top publication Notre Dame is the best program ever, USC 2nd, Oklahoma was 3rd, Ohio State 4th.

Notre Dame by far and away is the best! LSU is not even in the same class. USC is good, but not up there with Notre Dame. I say this and I'm not even an Irish fan.

Great Question? Ohio State is no doubt the best school as far a tradition goes. Heisman trophy's and National Championships aside. Since Jim Tressel has been there they have 3 NC games in 6 years. John Cooper had at least 3 teams that could have one it and he could not get them there. In the last 15 years Ohio State is the team that will be there every year and they seem to reload every season. I never see them losing a game unless they think they get the mind set as last year in the NC game.

I think ND by a little ways. After that, you have 6 or 7 teams that could be considered second place. In no particular order, OSU, Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, MIchigan, Texas or Nebraska. I might have missed someone, there are a lot of great programs out there.
