But that's what Republicans apparently think of Rudy.

Too liberal?

I lived in his city when he was mayor, and other than him wearing a dress and having a public affair, there wasn't much about Rudy that was 'liberal'...

Dictatorial is more like it, and smarmily corrupt. You'd think the Republicans would like those two qualities since it's what they usually elect.

Go figure...

benito--

Rudy didn't pacify New York. A good economy did that. As far as enforcing laws? Well he may have done that for some folks, but others got away with high embezzlement, often right under Rudy's nose.

But the one hallmark of the Rudy years was that the NY cops were, shall we say, a little unrestrained.

Enforcing laws is one thing... broom handle rape and filling unarmed men with bullet overkill is another. In his term as mayor there were three major court cases involving police brutality... and it wasn't just some liberal whining. The cops were out of control.

Bernie Kerrik is the tip of the iceberg there...

You are right let's talk about the smarmy republicans. They are racists. A member of their party has used the n word on the floor of the Senate twice. Oh wait that Was Sen Byrd a democrat. OK how about the republican governor who ordered the confederate flag to fly above the SC state house. Oh that was Fritz Holliins, a democrat? Sorry. By the way why do Sen Byrd and former Sen Hollins have in common besides their party affiliations? Both are admitted "reformed" grand dragons of the KKK.`
Well a republican did send an email to a page. But another republicanactually had sex with a page and was caught in his office doing it...........oh wait a sec........that was democrat Gary Studds who was elected 6 more times after that before retiring. Or the republican who ran the underage callboy business from his home. no no no. That was democrat Barney Frank who is still in the house of reps.
OK let's change the subject..........how about the republican who gave her spouse over 8 billion dollars worth of no bid government contracts. Ooops that was Dianne Feinstein. She had to give up being the head of that committee. And just where did the honest loyal dems send her to? They made her the head of the ethics committee. Hey........do you suggest that republicans should elect people like you liberals do? You are just too funny for words.

The reason is that the Republicans (the neocons, to be specific-not the majority of Republicans) do not know what they are ranting about.

First of all, they equate "liberal" with "socialist" and thus to "communist." In fact the three terms are entirely different. Communism IS inherantly represssive. Socialism, even though I don't agree with it, is not.

"liberalsim" is not a political/economic system--it is an approach/philosophy that emphasizes open-mindedness, a willingness to change existing institutions to promote socilal progress, etc.

The neocons define ANYTHING that does not adhere to their ideology--or anyone who dissents from their agenda--as "liberal/socialist/communist." With no understanding of what the terms mean. In point of fact, the policies and methods they espoiuse bear more resemblance to the communist regimes than to traditional American values, institutions, and culture.

I am a foreigner so i will try my best, Rudy is no liberal and authoritarian he definitely is.Did you see his own personal security army wherever he went? and his feeble attempts explaining it all on T.V., (saying it was not his decision as someone else decided he was so important).A real Prima Donna and an egotist. Not one single good idea have i heard from his camp,

A "repressive authoritarian"? Surely you jest. I'm far from a Rudy supporter, but if you consider him a repressive authoritarian because he decided to actually enforce laws against such things as public urination and drunk/disorderly conduct, I don't think I want to live in your idea of a free country.

i would bet a large sum of money that those who consider themselves "conservative" are far more likely to have an affair - even a public one - than those who call themselves "liberal" - but the dress thing is all liberal
