Why keep Wood and not Prior? What do you think the front office has in mind as the overall pitching strategy for 2008? And, will it work?

I think they are kind of in a rebuilding stage, with Carlos Zambrano leading the way. They are letting the offense take the reins. Remember in 1990 when Sweet Lou won the World Series with the Reds? He did this with one strong pitcher in Jose Rijo, and some good offense... although he DID have one of the greatest bullpens in history. Good Luck in 2008.

I am not a Chicago Cubs fan, but I will still like to answer this question. I am not a fan of either Kerry Wood or Mark Prior. My Dad disagrees with me over Kerry Wood, I don't like him at all, I don't see what is so special about him. Well let's look at it this way, but Kerry Wood and Mark Prior have both injured during thier time playing for the Chicago Cubs, and plus the fact is that Kerry Wood has been a Chicago Cubs pitcher longer then Mark Prior. But somehow Kerry Wood has manged to come back, but now as a reliever rather then a starter. And plus the fact is that he he had a good year in the bullpen this year, and everybody loves this guy, and that includes Chicago Cubs radio broadcasters Pat Hughes and Ron Santo. I am not sure what the TV broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly think of him, but I am guessing that they must be loving him as well. I must be the only person out there that hates Kerry Wood. If it were me as Chicago Cubs genral manger, I would have gotten rid of Kerry Wood and Mark Prior, but that is why these 2 guys are lucky that I am not the GM of the Chicago Cubs. I am not sure what the Chicago Cubs front office has in mind for pitching strategy for 2008, so I can't say for sure if it will work. But the thing is that they have gotten rid of one of 2 often injured pitchers that they have had over the last 10 years, and even through he has only been a Chicago Cubs pitcher since 2002, and the only good season he had which was the first full season that he had in 2003. But it seems to me at Kerry Wood will be a member of the Chicago Cubs for a long time to come, rather I like it or not.

Yes, he wasn't getting it done. They didn't want to take a chance of overpaying him, and not having him at all.

That team had the potential to be the best starting staff in a few decades, but injuries murdered that teams WS hopes. I think both Prior AND Wood could have been the next best 1-2 punch baseball has ever seen.

As a Cardinals fan i have to say that i am upset to see that you guys freed up a roster spot. I loved seeing on the first day of the season that both Wood and Prior were already on the DL and we didn't need to worry about either one of them until at least September. Seriously, he could have been great if he could have just missed that injury bug, i hate to see someone with his talent, lose everything to injuries. As long as the Cubs keep Wood in the bullpen and don't let him overextend himself, he should eventually become a very nasty closer.

prior had the one outstanding year were he won 18 games ( i believe thats right) and has been off or injured ever since. at this point- we cant wait for him. we dumped his salary which we paid last year for hmmmm nothing! not a game not an out pitched. we can go out and spend the money we would have on him on a deal with someone else who can help us win the pennant in 2008.

I dislike Facemarks because of the fact they like human beings based totally on what the business enterprise needs you to love. regardless of the undeniable fact that I even have some faces that i like, I extra often than not like heels because of the fact their characters are so plenty extra rounded out and lifelike feeling. yet they at the instant are not the main demanding fan. the main demanding fan is the "Nostalgia Fan." those are the adult men that dislike your opinion, no rely what your opinion is, because of the fact it is a transformation from the single element in time they loved wrestling. They discover fault in each and every form of ingredient of wrestling, and yet for some reason they save watching. They hated Jericho's turn because of the fact he's no longer the Jericho they enjoyed till now, yet in addition they hated the previous Jericho because of the fact he wasn't Lionheart! those followers in basic terms like nostalgic circumstances, and seem to think of that the final era ever became into the era they watched while they have been 13. yet once you certainly need to renowned, while they have been 13, they have been the main impressionable they have ever been, and that's what you get locked in to. The music you began to love at 13 is what you caught with maximum in all probability your total existence. The cartoons you suspect up till you have been 13 have been the final cartoons and each thing after suck. those everybody is those that had to verify Hogan and Hart come back because of the fact "they are staggering and have extra expertise of their little finger than any of those new adult men" regardless of the fact that neither can try against anymore. they desire the PG14 era back, for the only reason that they undergo in suggestions the final of it (yet won't be able to undergo in suggestions any of the undesirable circumstances, and believe me there are a number of them... Mark Henry loves Mae youthful ring a bell? How approximately Katie Vick?). they are so fearful of replace and the place the business enterprise has to pass to stay afloat that they turn against each replace and new wrestler, and on each and every occasion somebody REMOTELY reminds them of the previous, they dangle to them like they are the final ingredient ever (Ted DiBiase, all people?). I hate the Nostalgic Fan. learn how to attain that those days are long gone. If the hot days resemble the previous days, super... yet do in no way anticipate the comparable ingredient, because of the fact human beings would desire to alter, or the business enterprise dies with the previous.

Prior doesn't know how to stay healthy, and he wasn't worth waiting for. Go Cubs.

Lets get Bedard and Roberts for a bunch of minor players and then we never have to worry about prior again. :P

Prior was a 1 hit wonder

Not a Cubs fan but I think it was dumb. You don't give up on a young pitcher who when healthy can get you 18+ wins and 200+ k's. I hope the metss pick him up cuz we need pitching bad!!
