Hi,
English is my second language.I am now in North America and would stay here for long. So far, I have been using
"Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary". I found this dictionary quite good. I just realized that the pronounciation keys and usage etc in this dictionary would be Britain-based, whereas what I need is some American-based dictionary.

Would sbdy pl suggest some popular American-based dictionary...

Thanks

Yes. Merriam-Webster's 11th Collegiate Dictionary. It bears in mind the British usage and includes it where necessary.

The American Heritage Dictionary would be my choice. You can access it online through Bartleby.

A good "English as a second language" dictionary is Heinle's.

A good, traditional online dictionary is Dictionary.com.
