A freshly cut Christmas tree does the trick. I also like the scented cinnamon pinecones. They are great decor for Christmas and they smell yummy. A Christmas smell that I love, but only lasts a little while is the smell of cookies baking and standing over the stove while stirring the fudge.Yum!
Happy Holidays!
PS the pinesol idea sounds gross! the house would smell like a gas station bathroom.Eeeeew!

our house has several fresh wreaths, a real tree, lots of baking and cooking going on, so it really smells like christmas!
why don't you get a cinnamon stick, or two, slice some apple and put it all in a pot of simmering water on the back burner of your stove. the scent will be marvelous! throw out the apple if you don't care to eat it, and start again the next day with fresh apple! or bake some sugar cookies, or shortbread, or even buy premade cookie dough and bake that!
if you can't have a real tree for whatever reason then purchase a real wreath! that will give you the same marvelous christmas tree smell!
merry christmas!

My family always buys a scented Christmas tree that usually smells like citrus, that's what I've always associated Christmas with.

get some real branches or garlands to decorate with. the smell of evergreen will do it. they are cheap 5 or less. consider using them on your kitchen counters / or in your tablescape design. hang garland around the fireplace.
