i was wondering if anyone knew if the part were he gets caught in a trap and has to cut himself down. Was that his own trap and he forgot about it or was it the dark seekers trap?

It was a dark seeker trap. They copied his falling car trigger and used Fred as bait.
It goes to show that the alpha male of that hive was more intelligent than Neville gave them credit for. Remember he said that 'all human personality traits were gone'. I take it to show that the alpha male dark seeker was capable of planned thought and was driven by revenge, not just animalistic urges.

It is not explained in the movie but it is supposed to have been his own trap that he was too hurried to avoid.
The fact is that the world is filled with traps from people like himself trying to protect themselves but apparently the traps did not do the job and he sprung one that remained unsprung.

i think that the leader set the frap for him..
it seemed like they picked up his behavior..
he had sam..then they had dogs..he set a trap..so they set a trap..then when they were fighting he was copying also..but thats just my opinion.

no the dark seekers made it,because the leader wanted to find his girl friend who will smith took remember.
