A man and his wife are at home and the wife say's she is going out shopping." Better take your coat and an umbrella " says the husband " But the sun is out" replies the wife. "I know but it won't last" says the husband. The wife doesn't want to look a fool so checks the local weather forecast. "There" she says, "it is meant to be sunny and dry all day long ! " She looks out the window and to her amazement, it starts to rain." How did you know ? " she asks. " I listened to a Russian weather forecaster called Rudolf on the radio and he said the weather would get worse." "But how could he possibly know ?" asks the wife confused that a Russian so far away could get the weather forecast correct. "Well " says the husband feeling rather smug, " surely everybody has heard that RUDOLPH THE RED KNOWS RAIN DEAR !!!

Great!!!

Now for a true story:

While I was stationed in Mississippi the weather on the local cable called for partly cloudy. After clearing the windshield and digging the car out I called the station to tell them, "I just scraped 6 inches of partly cloudy off my car". No kidding, it was in 1970 but I remember the exact words.

They really got that one wrong.

Merry Christmas

Yes, and it's not all that rare an event. Weather forecasting is not an exact science and screw ups abound. Don't expect the precision of Math in weather forecasts or any other types of forecasting.

True story.
A weatherman predicted 8 inches of snow for the night.
It didn't happen.
The next day on Weather Forcast, same TV station, one of the female co hosts said, "Where is the 8 inches you promised last night?"
The weatherman left the stage.

Really happened.

Cute, and right in time for Christmas! Star for you. :)

...and to answer the question, where I live, the forcast is generally right. When I lived in Vancouver, it was anyones guess. They were usually wrong there, but then, the weather could change many times per day.

Even after spending hundreds of millions of dollars, on satellites, radar, computers, etc, the weather service admits to being wrong 70% of the time.

Let's just say my weatherman is always close, but never totally anything. If I don't like the weather on one station, I just switch to another station and my weather improves immediately. Cute joke. Thanks.
