I'm not stupid, I just forgot. So please just answer the question.

3x+7=x-6
-8n+12=4n+36
5x+1=x+8

Show me step by step and explain.

you want to get the 'x' or 'n' by itself on one side.

3x+7=x-6
3x+7-x=x-6-x (subtract the x on the right side by both sides)
2x+7=-6
2x+7-7=-6-7 (subtract the 7 on the left side by both sides)
2x=-13
2x/2=-13/2 (divide the 2 by both sides to get the x by itself)
x=-13/2=-6.5=-6 1/2

do the other problems the same way.

The goal is to get x by itself:

3x + 7 = x - 6

1.) To get all the numbers with x's in them on one side, subtract x (from the side with x - 6) and get it on the other side.
3x + 7 - x = -6

2.) You only want variables on one side and numbers on the others, so subtract or add (* if a number is positive, you subtract it to the other side, if the number is negative, you add it to the other side) any numbers that don't contain an x in them and place them on the other side.
3x - x = -6 - 7

3.) Now you need to add like terms. You can add/subtract numbers with x's in them, and you can add/subtract numbers. For example, 3x - x = 2x (because x is really 1x, and 3x - 1x = 2x) and -6 - 7 = -13 (two negatives numbers are added together and result in a negative number)
So you have: 2x = -13

4.) Now you just divide -13 by 2 in order to get x by itself.
x = -13/2

and that is the answer to the first question.

The next two questions are solved the same way

-8n + 12 = 4n + 36

1.) 12 = 4n + 36 + 8n
2.) 12 - 36 = 4n + 8n
3.) -24 = 12n
4.) -24/12 = n
answer: n = -2

5x + 1 = x + 8

1.) 5x +1 - x = 8
2.) 5x - x = 8 - 1
3.) 4x = 7
4.)x = 7/4
answer: x = 7/4

3x + 7 = x - 6 take variables to one side and constants to the other.

3x - x = -6 - 7
2x = -13
x = -13/2 or - 6.5

-8n + 12 = 4n +36
-8n - 4n = 36 - 12
-12n = 24
n = 24/-12
n = -2

5x + 1 = x + 8
5x - x = 8 - 1
4x = 7
x = 7/4 or 1.75

arrange them in the order:
3x+7=x-6
-8n+12=4n+36
5x+1=x+8

can be arranged as

2x=-13
x=-13/2

thank you

3x + 7 = x - 6

group the x terms together on one side and constants on the other side. when u take something across the = sign,dont forget to negate its sign..

so when you negate +, it becomes - and negating a -, you get a +

3x - x = -6 - 7

2x = -13

x = -6.5

hope you remember it now...dont forget it anymore..
