your mom's friend is an idiot. It's a STORY and christians are making too big of a deal out of it. The movie totally waters down any offensive religious material, so i don't see why you shouldn't be able to.

I saw the movie and the thought never occured to me. Although some ppl might be upset with a few certain things (like Demons and Dust), I don't think it's all that big of a deal. It's a great movie and I plan on reading the bk (books are always better). Besides, I would see it all over again BECAUSE it's controversial. Didn't people say something similar about The Chronicles of Narnia?? Anyway, The Golden Compass is fictional and I considered the movie to be fantasy/action/adventure. It might reflect some of the opinions of the author, but I didn't notice anything out-right anti-religion. It's a great fantasy to get caught up in, you should go see it. Decide for yourself.

It is not this book/movie that slays Christian religion but the next two books. As they are going to be doing all 3 books as movies you may wish to wait for them all to come out and find out how offensive they are before watching. Otherwise you may watch this one and find you can't watch the other two when they come out.

I am a Christian and did not object to the books too much - I just read them as stories, they are not real. They become a problem because some people take the ideas within them seriously instead of as fiction.

The movie is consciously ambiguous and the the book is not butthe concept is not meant to be sacreligious but rather theoretical in that you meet a power that has the ability to end your existence, in fact is prophecized to end your existence what do you do? Lose the specifics and that is the same plot of Star Trek The Undiscovered Country when you get to the end of that movie.

no they have taken out the "Christan religion" but knowing this from the book you will know what they are talking about. But it refers more to, stopping people FORCING there ways of belief's on you. Being any religion or any government

Ive heard this bashing and trying to get children to turn against God (or kill ?) and other anti stuff comes in the rest of the series...So by having the movie now parents might buy all the books for their kids for Christmas. The rest of the series is not so innocent. Sound like the first movie is mild...But gets worse in the other ones...

No.. the reason they say this is because the person who wrote the book was athiest..the movie has nothing to do with religion..go see it its great.

they don't in the golden compass, but in the last book they do. The book also suggest that people haven't killed god, but the church has. anyways's it is a really good movie and book.
