my brother is also on a big state winning high school team. they do about that much if not more. it is your choice though. if you feel like it is injuring u than talk to your coach seriously about lowering yardage and work because of physical reasonds. no coach wants their swimmer to be injured;
Hope i helped :-]

You have to train lots to be good, and coaches are renowned for pushing swimmers a bit too hard, but I used to train about that much... We used to train 10 times a week;
9 times a week in the pool for 2 hours (except a sat. morning where it was 3 hours) and then once a week in the gym for 2 hours so overall 21 hours. This was from when I was about 13! Whatever you do don't burn out, which is what I did, I trained to much when I was young and got bored so I quit at 15, and never reached anything higher than 4th in England. I got out an old logbook to compare with your totals and I did about 60 kilometres in a week, so I'm not sure what that is in yards, but it sounds about the same! My practises where sometimes tough (and I mean really tough- sometimes I would puke after sessions we were being pushed so much) You can email me or IM me if you wanted advice etc...
Good luck with your swimming and remember DON'T BURN OUT!!! There is no point carrying on if you hate it, so just take it easier for a bit, I didn't and my health suffered! Good luck, I hope you reach your goals, you deserve to if you work that hard!
Hattie xx

no. it's fine. as long as you can keep up with it. if it is to much then join a club but otherwise you are ok. Micheal Phelps is, yes, a world record holder but he swimms 14000 a day. And Most Division 1 colleges are swimming that much as well. Im on the girls high school swimm team and we go 6 days a week 6K a day and weightlifting. your fine.

whoa this is high school swimming?! i've swam for 16 years and high school swimming should not be that much. I think if you were on a club team than that would be reasonable amount to do...but it's high school practice. It's not a lot of exercise...but it is for high school!

Aerobic exercise can be done up to six times a week. Resistance training should be every other day (or if you alternate muscle groups you can train every day too). One day of complete rest per week is best. (but it sounds like thats what you are doing)
Sounds like a grueling workout schedule but thats what it takes to be a comptetitive athlete these days. Make sure you eat a good balanced diet and get plenty of sleep and you should be fine.

You have to get alot of rest, eat well and drink alot of fluids. IF you get less thatn 10 hours of sleep, i dont recomend that much work. You have to get rest, thats the most important thing. Also, do alot of streching so you dont pull a muscle. alos insted of going out and partying, watching tv, going to the movies...e.c.t, you could read a book or just go to bed
hope this helped!

It sounds like they are putting it on really heavy but if you are taking care of yourself it's not unreasonable. The more exercise you get, the more important it is to take great care of yourself in diet and sleep. If you aren't, it would be very easy to over do it on this type of exercise routine.

I don't think it's unsafe, but I have heard that muscles grow better if you give them ample resting time. About 3 days of a week would be good enough I think. Just don't overdo it, or you won't get anywhere.

Just make sure to eat large, healthy, energizing meals, and drink LOTS of water, even when swimming because the chlorine makes my mouth very dry, so I always bring a water bottle when I do my meek 2k yards ;)
