it is "M-E-S-M-E-R-I-Z-E"

Mesmerize is to just "amaze". It's to capture someone's attention so much that it's like you are hypnotizing them.

Example:
The Fourth of July fireworks were absolutely mesmerizing.

As you can see, mesmerize is a GOOD thing.

to hypnotize someone is to mezmorize him/her.
Mezmerize is the fourth album by System of a Down and the first half of the Mezmerize/Hypnotize double album. It was released on May 17, 2005, six months before Hypnotize. Despite the time difference between releases, the album actually takes its name from the lyrics in the song Hypnotize; Mezmerize and Hypnotize were recorded within the same time frame. The album features guitarist Daron Malakian sharing most of the vocal work with vocalist Serj Tankian, splitting the vocals at least halfway on most of the tracks.

Mesmer was a guy who more or less popularized hypnotism. So, mesmerize was used as a synonym for hynotize, and that is all that "to mesmorize" someone means, to "hypnotize" them. Whether the term is intended to mean a true hypnotization or simply to cause intense fascination, depends on the context. Take as an example "He was mesmerized by her stark beauty". Most people would not take that to mean that the person was actually hyponotized, but instead would understand it to mean that the man was fascinated by her beauty and couldn't help himself from looking at her and thinking about her.

Franz Anton Mesmer. German physician whose system of therapeutics, known as mesmerism, was the forerunner of the modern practice of hypnotism.
YOU ARE A DUCK. NOW, QUACK.
Actually, a person succumbs to suggestion easily and may be made to waddle and act like a duck. Some people can not be hypnotized, because they will not give up control.
C. :)!!
