The test may not have as much dye or as much regent on the testing area as it should. These tests are made for fractions of a test and should NEVER be used to test the "amount" of hCG. Dilute urine caused by increased fluid intake can also change the amount of hCG in your urine.
Very slight spotting is almost never anything. However if you are concerned you can get the doctor to check the levels of hCG in your blood.

9. I took another test and the line is lighter. Does this mean anything? Should it get darker? Not necessarily. In general, the positive line will be darker when a greater amount of hCG is present in the urine, but not always. Some tests contain more or less dye (meaning there is just more or less color to "stick" to your hCG.) Some tests are more or less sensitive-- even 2 tests in the same box can be different. Also, your urine may have more or less hCG in it depending on what you ate or drank, or how long it's been since you last peed. Food itself does not cause false results, but can affect how much urine you have and how dilute it is. Eating salty chips and drinking caffeine all day will result in more concentrated pee, whereas gorging on watermelon and ginger ale will result in lots of very dilute pee. But an HPT is not meant to tell you "how" pregnant you are. It only tells you if you are pregnant or not. As long as there is a line in the results window, you are pregnant.
Some women experiencing early miscarriages do notice their lines getting fainter or disappearing entirely, but even if your line gets fainter, it is not a guarantee that you are miscarrying, or that anything is wrong. See FAQ 21 for normal levels of hCG and how to properly measure it.

Stop taking the hpts! Not only are you stressing yourself out, but you are wasting your money. Once you have the positive you are pregnant. If there are 2 lines no matter how faint you are pregnant. The spotting was probably implantation. My implantation blood didn't come down until I was a little over 9 weeks. Just to make sure the doctor gave me an ultrasound and everything was fine. Don't worry, it won't be long until you can see your baby and hear the heartbeat. No more hpts!

I don't know about the tests but I had slight spotting at about 8 or 9 weeks and my doctor said it was normal. You're probably fine. I was told it could be from having sex, the vaginal walls bleed easier when you are pregnant.
You're about due for an ultrasound and once you see your baby you'll feel a lot better, I know I did.
Good luck, relax, and try to enjoy this time.

They're probably declining, which they should be.
hCG levels peak between 8 and 10 weeks, then start to decline.
You need to put away the HPTS and stop being so neurotic. Seriously. You're doing more harm than good stressing yourself out like this.
HCG levels peak at about eight to 10 weeks of pregnancy and then decline, remaining at lower levels for the rest of the pregnancy.

Why are you still taking hpt's in the first place? That's kinda wierd. And if you are realy worried then you need to get off the computer and go to the Dr.

If there is any trace of a postive line. SHE IS PREGNANT. There are false negatives but never a false positive. The spotting is implanation bleeding. If it is light brown or even very light red she is find it is the egg implanting. How exciting!!

This happened to my friend and she ended up have an early miscarriage so that's why the tests ended up getting lighter and lighter. This does not mean this happened to you. I'd insist in getting in to your doctor for peace of mind.
