I work in medicine and have smelled decomposition, which is VERY bad. However I think this will retake the cake, my friend:
I saw this, presumably homeless guy, at a free clinic and he hadn't taken off his shoes or socks in over 2 yrs. He took them off at the podiatry center next to where I work and the stench was overwhelming. I literally gagged and have never done that in my life except one time when a paper spray can exploded at a night club I frequented.

the smell of death ,that is a smell you can never get rid of no matter what you do to try and get rid of it it lingers for a rather long time even after the body or bodies have been removed .
