I wasnt going to post again but couldnt resist this, so it could be my last question - and it will probably be reported too.
We have Moosejaw SK, Spuzzum BC. Skookumchuck BC, Spillamachine BC (I hope I spelled that right) and we even have a Dildo Ontario -- I am reading a book about Lunatic Alaska, I dont know if it really exists --

Here's a link to a list of Newfoundland place names, some of which can be rather interesting.
Also, Dildo is in Newfoundland, not Ontario (unless there's two of them in the country).
The second link is to a list of interesting place names from across the country.
I've never heard of a place called Lunatic in Alaska, but did spend a night at Chicken, Alaska this past summer.

We have some names taken from native tribes and some Spanish terms which seem to elude proper pronunciation by many. The town west of me is my favorite: Pahrump. It's a word from the Paiute tribe, but it sounds like some embarrassing sound made in public.
Although it isn't a funny name, Alberta Province may have the most aptly named town or city in all of Canada: Cold Lake. And I'm also fond of a Canadian town called Medicine Hat. Sounds like the title of an old Saturday matinee western movie. LOL!

It would seem to me that every town in California has a strange name, but then again, I am from the mid west...here everything is named in Spanish...you would think that Mexico once owned this state! and the streets are all in Spanish also...which is just fine if you speak Spanish.... As for me, I am still working on English! Phil
