well i personally think its a publicity act.
why tell us all now? maybe because there is not going to be another book? she wants the last bit of limelight?
but people today should be open minded. i have nothing against gay people. and the rest of society shouldn't either. there are gay people out in the real world. but Harry Potter is a book and i just don't believe Dumbledore was gay.
p.s i never guessed either.

It was a bit weird to find that out since it didn't really seem like the type of thing you could see unless you were looking for it and if it was to send a positive message about being gay then you think there would have been a slight mention of it somewhere rather than us having to be told after the books were finished. At first I did think it was a publicity stunt but apparently its because the makers of the next film were planning a romantic plot thread for Dumbledore and when they told hr she realised that no one knew that he was gay so she made that announcement.

It is funny to me that people keep on asking this question and people keep on answering (looks at self). Oh, crap.
I was more upset that Dumbledore being gay had ANY impact on the community at large. It is ridiculous. It has no meaning
what
so
ever
if a character happens to like men. It's like making a big deal that Harry is a white kid, or that Ron kid has red hair and looks like Sandy from Peanuts.
The story is about that geeky kid Harry. But liberal idiots "applauded" Dumbledore's gayness as if it is some brave decision he made.
Stupid liberals.
All it does is ruin a book series (that I didn't think was particularly good in the first place) when readers and media shove some political message into the words.

It doesn't really matter one bit or effect the story line, since Stephen Fry was asked to read the Audio Versions of the books it was only time that someone was chosen to 'come out' , the last volume was the right time, and as Stephen Fry does a such a perfect narration of the Harry Potter novels it is a fitting tribute to him.

I kinda think it's a jab at all those Christians Groups who have been protesting the book for so long. Plus it really does show how people feel around homosexuals, a lot of people say they have no problem with gay people but when an iconic character turns out to be gay everyone gets irritated about it. Frankly I find it quite funny she made the character gay since it really doesn't change anything about the character.

I didn't know that! Does it really give that away in the 7th book cause I didn't get that impression. I know what you mean though. Why did she have to ruin him. Yes he is ruined now cause who knows who else he liked. I mean, Imagine Dumbledore checking out snape lol.

Anyone who has a problem with it isn't a true Harry Potter fan. She can do whatever she wants. It's her books.
A publicity act? Right, because she doesn't have enough of that already! *rolls eyes*
If you have a problem with it then you do have something against gays.
Dumbledore being gay changes nothing in my opinion!

-_- It was really obvious in the 7th book before she even said it. If it bothers you and changes the way you think about Dumbledore, then you DO have a problem with gay people.

I'm not upset at all, it makes no difference to my enjoyment of the books whatsoever.
EDIT: I see a lot of thumbs down for the comments saying they are not bothered by Dumbledore being gay....is that the homophobes voting?
