Step 1 : convert to improper fraction
Step 2: write it as normal division problem
Step 3: cross multiply

17 11/12 = 215/12
6 1/10 = 61/10

so 215/12 / 61/10 =
215/12 * 10 / 61 = 2150/732 (multiply both numerators and both denominators) =
1075/366 or 2 343/366

if you are estimating, you would say:

17 11/12 approximately = 18
6 1/10 approximately = 6

giving:

18/6 = 3 as an approximate solution

----------------------------------------------

To find exact answer get common denominators:

17 11/12 = (17*12 + 11)/12 = 215/12
6 1/10 = (6*10 + 1)/10 = 61/10

Then,
(215/12) / (61/10) = (215*10)/(12*61) = 2150/732

= 2 + 686/732 = 2 + (343/366) = 2.9.......

which is just under 3 (check with calculator), so your approximation is fairly good!

60 is a common denominater
and by the way this is probably how u do it
17 11/12 / 6 1/10= 215/12 times 10/61=
(keep change flip now you do the rest ps your suppose to make in to fractions, flip one, then you multiply)

convert to improper fractions turn second fraction upside down a nd multiply top lines and bottom lines
215/12 x 10/61 = 215x10/12x61
