Everytime something loud goes off,I jump really bad. It just surprises me. It isn't fear though. How do I get rid of this? Sometimes I am afraid that people think I do it for attention, but I don't!

The PTSD answer is one. I know for me, it's 'cuz I'm hard of hearing - I don't know anything is about to happen, or that anyone is coming up behind me and is about to call out my name. Mix that with ADD and I REALLY don't see them coming. I'm off in my own little la-la world just minding my own business balancing the national budget, finding a cure for cancer and that sort of thing, and all of a sudden it's like, BOOM! There's a noise, I jump, it's a fiasco for a few tenths of a second and then it's over as I slowly slink back into my own skin.

It's annoying as all heck, and I still do it. The only way I've found to stop it to date is by wearing earplugs all the time, or keeping my hearing aides turned off (when I wear them - hearing aides turned off are almost as good as earplugs). If I were FULLY deaf, it wouldn't happen. :-\

It sounds like what you have is what psychologists call an "exaggerated startle response". There's not a lot of information out there, but you can type it into a search engine and find a lot of little bits and pieces of information about it.

It's linked to a major trauma in the past, or it develops out of an anxiety issue.

I think this is pretty normal. You are probably just more sensitive to sudden loud noises than most people. Or maybe everyone else is jumping too and you just don't notice! I wouldn't worry about it. Your friends probably don't notice anyway.

No.
I has to do something with your Nervous System that controls all your bodily movements.

It's because some people's Nervous System are more "Sensitive" than others and you (Jump) easier when someone sneaks up to you to Scare you. Etc. Etc.
That's all.

You have a sensitive startle response. It may be difficult to change, but if you anticipate something loud maybe you won't jump. If you cut back on caffeine you may not be so easily startled.

Well,it's simply because of your instincts;your reflexes...

I think it can be changed(conditioned reflexes).. Put it in your mind that u'll do another thing wen u hear that loud noise and practice it on noises.. Little by little, I think il'll work..

Well, that's the only thing that came to my mind.. Else.. one advice.. BE NATURAL.. stop worrying about people..!!
