Fifteen unambiguous words are all that would be required to quell the American-as-apple-pie cycle of gun violence that has now tearfully enshrined Virginia Tech in the record book of mass murder. Here are the 15 words that would deliver a mortal wound to our bang-bang culture of death: "The second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed."

No, only because I know that:

1. They will not get it done.
2. I already have guns that they WILL NOT TAKE WHILE I AM BREATHING!

Edit: I looked at the link. It never ceases to amaze me how those people actually think that it would be any more difficult for criminals to get guns if they were outlawed than it is now. It also never ceases to amaze me how they think that they will somehow get criminals to give up their guns. Finally, when will they get it through their heads that the areas with the strictest gun laws tend to have higher crime rates, but those cities who have loosened their gun laws, and even REQUIRED gun ownership, have nearly zero crime rate...see link below for example.

Forget war...funny, the liberals want to silence Christianity. They also want to silence talk radio (see the so called "fairness doctrine") seems like liberals are opposed to free speech.

mcq316...where do you think a militia comes from? If there were ever a need for a militia, and guns were outlawed, what do you think the militia would use? Foul language??? Get a clue!

che...a militia IS MADE UP OF THE PEOPLE. The Constitution does not say "the right of those militia to bear arms will not be infringed" it says "the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms will not be infringed" Any interpretation other than we the PEOPLE have the right to keep and bear arms is invalid.

I always find it interesting that those who are pro-gun ownership seem to think that they are some authority on the interpretation of the U.S. Constitution.

Considering that the second amendment includes provisions for "well regulated militias," its legal language has been the source of an endless debate among scholars and the public for decades. All of modern U.S. history.

And yet, those who believe in the "right to bear arms" and interpret the second amendment to mean precisely this seem to be under the mistaken impression that their individual beliefs settles the discussion. It does not. It was written several hundred years ago under a historical context that could not possibly be any more different in its application to the state of modern society. As far as I'm concerned, the rates of violent gun crime in this country speak for themselves. That's what actually frightens me.

So, unless you're actually referring to "well-regulated militias" as "being necessary to the security of a free State," the debate is far from over.

If they repeal the second amendment, they should do so knowing that the guns will not evaporate, and those of us with the guns will repeal their first amendment rights. They say any more, they lose their basic right to life.
Then we will pass a new amendment clarifying and removing any chance of restriction, and the libs will accept or.............

That might well be the stupidest idea proposed in the long history of the Republic. I'm certain I'm not the only one who feels that he will NEVER surrender his guns. The Second Amendment is the one which makes it possible to maintain the others.

Bud W; can you prove that irrational charge?

When politics enters in to a conversation;the first casualty is always TRUTH.
Some of these answers prove that to be true.
The second is;lack of knowledge, and interpretation.

The fact that the Patriot Act repealed nearly all my rights is what frightens me. By the way I am a Liberal and I don't believe in any gun control.

No. I hope the fear and hate and idiocy in this country never reaches the point that I have to carry a gun with me to get a frickin' bagel from the shop down the street.

Or that I'm forced to own a gun. I currently don't.

If they repeal any of the first ten amendments, that would frighten any American.

Yes. Especially when you consider how skeptical most liberals are of the government. Are they that naive that they don't realize the most important part of the 2nd Amendment is our ability to protect ourselves from the government if ever needed?

Not really. They'd have a huge problem getting all the guns that are out there away from the owners.
