Why dont you read the book instead?
Books are always better and that way you know when you see the film that you will be dissapointed and therefore you wont bother going in the first place!!
If you really want to see it, just go see it and make up your own mind, no point being influenced by other peoples opinions.

I saw it last night. IMO it's not that great. Good, but not great.
Imagine your basic vampire/ zombie movie with decent effects where a handfull of people have to hold out till the end and some make it, some don't (I hope I haven't given too much of it away).
Then take away some of the good fight scenes and replace it with scenes that explore further the effect that being in such a situation has on the hero.
It has less action than a great monster-thriller. It has less psyche anguish than a good psycho-thriller. It doesn't excel anywhere.
But you can care for will smith's character and feel for his suffering. So I think it's worth a rental, and worth theater pricing if you've got money to spare.

You've been hearing mixed reviews because people have different tastes. The only way to know is to see it yourself. If you don't like it, you'll be out 8-10 bucks. Big deal. See a matinee.

The premise of the story is great. It will really get you thinking (I talkin the matrix kind of thinking here). Its theme is deep, and its got action too. Then again i'm a sci-fi fan, so I go for this kind of stuff anyway. But if you're worrying that's it'll be as complicated as the matrix , then don't...the plot here is easier to follow...and not as far from reality as the matrix was.

I thought it was too scary for my tastes, but it was pretty cool.
Just go see it if you really want to see it, worse comes to worse you'll be out a movie ticket and two hours of your life.
Who listens to reviews anyway?

Why depend on other people to tell you whether or not you'll like a movie? Pony up a few bucks for a matinée ticket and go judge for yourself.
