There are a lot of reasons for high burnout. Some people set unrealistic expectations for themselves and the people they serve. The difference between a realistic and a unrealistic social worker is the realistic social worker knows how to deal with the stress of the profession, and they also know that if you want to make money in this profession you have to learn to write grants.

Similarly to psychotherapists, they are constantly exposed to a lot of very sad cases, about which they can try their best, but often with little, or no effect. The effect is cumulative. They should all be taught how to de-stress, to draw the line, and not get too involved on an emotional level. See stress, tension, and burnout, at http://www.ezy-build.net/. Because the stupid people they try to help wont listen to them. The problem is: you can't fix stupid. Think about it, someone on welfare doesnt want to be told they have to get a job when they can just loaf around and live in the projects for free. Their standards are as low as they could get nd havebeen adjusted to that so they can avoid work. Its part of a culture of entitlement. It makes me furious and I HATE people like that and think they shoul dbe punished. So I would not last a week as a Social Worker.

Because they have an unrealistic, high pressure work load which causes super high stress which is one of the worst things for the brain and body. Main cause of burn-out in any profession is high stress. It is caused primarily by lack of funding which results in insufficient workers to handle the work load.

1) the job they are asked to do is very difficult, in any circumstances.
2) the clients usually are not compliant.
3) they are underpaid and over worked, especially in this fascist era where the nazi republicans have severely defunded all government sources for social work.

I don't like Social Workers at all. they are just like middle helpers/ from stupid people to smart people.
They are only there because the dumb people don't know where to go, how to process applications, etc.
In my job, once in a while I will deal with a Social Worker, and they are trying to tell me WHen, and How they want things to be done.....jajajajajajaja!!!! I love these ones, because I make very clear what my rules policies are she can be the Social Worker over theres but on this side that she needs right now..... I am the BOSS. Awful position!! I rather be a waitress than Social Worker.
