Has anyone noticed that hot topic fashions are conforming alot more to the Emo style?
i personally don't have a problem with it really...
i really don't know how to classify myself anymore, lol.
6th grade to 7th was totally GOTH for me, and then i just got more into the punk stuff, here i am in highschool sometimes lookin like i came from the 80's with the **** i wear,lol...
...i like it...
i've been listening to metal since i was about 11-ish, and i love it.everythiong's more about music than anything, but i've noticed that now more than anything, people keep labeling what i'd consider punk as emo.
what the hell?!?!
i have nothing against emo, but someone needs to clairify the difference between things, like sk8ter,punk,goth and then EMO.....i mean, i don't see them like labels, more like different things.i really don't want to come off as a judgemental idiot here, you know what i mean

what is your question?

i'm getting you just want to know the difference? or why they all fall under the same category?

i couldn't tell you, it seems like all the punks/emos just kind of did it themselves.. i think it's mostly the skinny jeans.
a year or so ago when emo came, they all wore skinny jeans. now the skaters/punks all do too, so i guess that's where other people get that they are all the same.

that's just what i tend to generalize. when i see a guy in skinny jeans, i instantly think he's emo

Emo is just kind of another way to describe a goth person. No, they're not depressing people all the time, they can be, but it just appears that way to most people. No, the skirt does not sound emo, and I'm not sure about the punk girls..? Haha lol hope this helps!

I am sick of the Emo tag myself. Just because I listen to Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, even Dashboard Confessional and *gasp* Hawthorne Heights.....does not mean that I should be labeled as EMO!

The only thing I hate about the "emo" crowd is the ones who wear girls pants and are constantly whisking their hair around out of their face. They are the ones who have ruin this style of music all together. I like punk rock, EMO if you will, rock n roll, whatever. I wear all black but it fits well and not tight.

I don't cry at night or cut my wrists, its all bullsh!t. and I get tired of people who like sh!tty bands like system of a down, disses the bands i like just because they want to throw a label on them.

Excuse me for liking songs that have a message or a purpose.

Listen to what you want and to those who label it EMO, their just simple minded and brain dead idiots who are followers and not leaders in our world

Emo... people commonly mistake that with other things. Hot topic's style is most definitely emo, though. What I would consider is emo is punk with a higher voice, more exaggerated guitars (power chords, as well), and depresso lyrics.

Take simple plan, their gay "no one understands me" type lyrics are retarded. It's like satan puked all over their lyrics sheet or something. And hawthorne heights, as well. "So cut my wrists and black my eyes". I mean like really winy and they make justin timbelake sound manly in some strange sort of way.

emo = depresso punk, but worse.

why clairfy? can't you just let people wear what they want? an emo and a goth and a punk might all have the same tshirt and jeans, but will wear them differently and with other stuff.. let the labels and boxes dissolve into a free society...

people just define stuff as watever they want i think like anything can be concidered emo at my school so i consider it a label cus nothing really has a specific meaning
emo, goth, skater, and punk can be all the same to people which i dont get
but i know wat u mean about hottopic but it doesnt seem that different...

Don't classify yourself. BE yourself. Forget the labels. People's style does change over the years, but you should worry about keeping up with an appropriate label to stamp on your forehead. <3

emo is generally lots of eyeliner, not necessarily black, but lots of it. (or quite a bit) its skinny jeans, t-scarf, that sort of thing. its mostly about individuality, so it changes from person to person. also, emos are not always depressed, slitting their wrists, etc. im not saying thats what you think, im just trying to get that message out. some people just like the style and music. basically, its hard to define, because it changes so much. ive been called emo, simply because i look like it. so to be honest, im not sure...

Do not ever wory about what others think of you, you are you, you are unique, an individual. Make your own style and stick to it.
When I was younger I was goth but I also 'borrowed' from punk, psychobilly and rocker. Now I'm more hippy-goth and no one ever gives me grief. Well, not to my face anyway!
Enjoy your life and your style.
