There is a noise in my eclipse. It comes from my motor and it kind of sounds like a big chain dragging the ground. Someone told me that it could be a lifter...Could that be it and if not what else could it be??? should I be concerned???

I'm not sure which motor you have in the Eclipse. If the lifters are noisy change the oil and use Mitsubishi oil filters. At factory training we were told that Fram filters caused lifter noise in Mits motors. After changing the oil and filter and letting the motor warm up you can rev the motor to 2,500 rpm while parked and in neutral to air bleed the lifters. You will need to hold the motor at 2,500 rpm for about three minutes to get the air out. If the noise goes away you are lucky and won't need to take the lifters out to clean them or replace them. Many Mits motors have a bit of lifter noise and I've seen people go over 100,000 miles that way. The motor won't blow up. Turn the radio up if you don't want to spend the money.

It could be any number of things from a lifter to a bearing. It would be best to get it checked out by your mechanic while it is just a little noise. This could save you a lot of money as well as time and fewer headaches.

You should definatly get that checked out. One thing will lead to another and eventually blow something up. Not sure what that problem could be. Check your belts and whatnot for any visible problems.
