"Gimmicks don't work". That IS the gimmick. In marketing language, isn't a gimmick a quirky special feature that makes something "stand out"?

The said special feature is typically thought to be of little relevance or use too. Thus, a gimmick is a special feature for the sake of having a special feature. Gimmicks are typically thought of as novelties, and not really that relevant to the product's functioning,

Soooo, obviously Chuck Norris is not relevant to the functioning or efficacy of the "Total Gym". If anyone thinks this guy actually uses it is seriously deluded. But, by paying Chuck Norris, the company is using him as this "special feature" I speak of above. So, by getting him to say that "gimmicks don't work" even though he IS the gimmick? Isn't the company basically saying, "our product does not work?" LOL.

Gimmicks are attempts to appeal to children and/or unintelligent or excitable adults, who often get more excited about the gimmick than the product. So, I guess, the manufacturers are counting on cashing in on this. Too bad, it is a fact of the society we live in.

I'm with Spreedog, man, eat less, exercise more. There is NO magic solution to weight loss.

What is it in the US?
Why is it that everything costs more in the US than any other place on earth?
In Australia the Total Gym sells for $299.00AUD, that’s about $260.00USD.
Why is it that the US is been charged $400.00USD?
Is it because the distributors or retailers feel that the US consumers are easier and more prepared to part with their cash?
I have purchased a Total Gym in Australia. I have it with me in Asia. I have found it to be pretty good.
I leave it always fully open and ready to be used smack in the middle of our living room.
Yes! That’s correct too. There is no need for any equipment at all to keep one’s body in shape.
The most important thing is the will and the determination as well as the putting it to practice that can and will keep anyone in shape.
At different stages in Central West, Central South West and in North Western Australia I used to get up at 5:00am and run up to 14 kms in about 20 minutes then deep into a pool for 50 laps in a further 20 minutes and then duck into a warm shower for another 15 minutes, and this all before breakfast and commencing a 10-12 hours work at 6:30am.
I was the fittest then.
I am in shape now, but not as fit as then.
Now days my main worries keep me more subdue than anything at all
I hope that GOD will give us a liberating year in 2008 most especially for Mum

the total Gym doesn't make Chuck Norris strong. Chuck Norris makes the total gym strong.

I like the one that folds up and tucks under a bed.
I'll bet 96% of those machines stay right there - - out of sight.

I have a weight bench I picked up at a yard sale for almost nothing, a few barbells picked up the same way, a floor that works very well for sit ups and push ups, and a place to walk as far as my Dalmatian and I want to go.
Bargain basement work outs.
I have to walk around the weight bench, so it reminds me to take a few minutes out each day to tone up.
We make things WAY too complicated.
Weight loss / dieting - SIMPLE - - eat less, exercise more.
Burn more than you take in.

I'd also bet that Chuck chuckles every time one of us buy one of these contraptions. LOL. Anyone who wants to buy one - fine - - if that what works for you - - - but you still have to do the work. All you really need for working out is GRAVITY.

What they're selling is dreams. They think that if you spend $400.00 for something you're going to use it.

But its like buying a $400.00 guitar and never playing it. How often does that happen? Alot!

Weight loss, like any other life change requires mind change, not money!
