I had to think about it, but finally decided I'm for it. If they get a degree and a job, then they will be able to pay the taxes to fund the next collegiate criminals. There would need to be a lot of conditions like the type of degree and the institution. I would be against sending them to a high dollar Ivy League school to major in philosophy. However an engineering or nursing degree would be worthwhile.

Against it.

How about a criminal-funded tuition system to help criminals who want a degree? They should pay their own f'ing way.

I agree with Fallenma 100%. College will just teach them to be better criminals, less likely to get caught. Look at the government.

I could support the notion. But I'd want to see protection from abuse of the system, such as convicts who are really not sincere about it using it as a way to get out of prison.

And we'd also have to watch out for a situation where those who have committed no crime are not able to get into or afford college.

It could be a good program, but only if it's done right. That'll be the hard part.

not sure. whats your meaning of the word criminal?
how about someone who grew up in a really bad neighborhood, got caught up, and never went to any schools that gave them higher than a 5th grade education, even as a senior?
i mean, i was really lucky, but not everyone is so lucky.
i say sure, if they paid the time, its hard to get a job once you get to the outside, and giving them an education will help them to become productive citizens.
and by the way, buddy?
if they dont get a good education and a good job, you wont have any more help paying for programs like that.
help them to help themselves.
the last thing we want is another pimp or crack whore who just didnt get the chance because some middle class kids thought that it wasnt worth it.

Yes, I think it' s a very good idea. Government and the executive power must give the ways to these people to rehabilitate fully and easy. Not to push them back to criminality.

Against it. Why should tax payers have the responsibility of paying for the education of criminals? We have enough burden paying for our own kids' tuition, our own student loans, etc. That's communistic and creates a reward system for breaking the law. I don't think so.

I am completely against this. If tax payers already had to pay for them to be in prison, why should we be paying for their education? I don't think enough criminals are going to even want a University Degree.

Completion of a GED should be mandated before release from prison. College should be earned, not paid for by the taxpayer.
