The rate fluctuates daily. The best place to see most current exchange rates is:
www.exchangerate.com
It is updated daily.
As of Friday, December 14, 2007, the rate was:
1Dollar equals 0.495 Pounds (British)
So, it would take about $2.02 (without any fees) to convert Dollars to 1 Pound.
You can calculate the number of U.S. Dollars it takes to get one Pound by taking 1 (dollar) and divide it by the amount of Pounds it will buy (on Friday, it was 0.495131 Pounds), and that will get you to the exact amount of U.S. Money it will take to make 1 Pound.

Are you talking weight or the British pound. Approximately $2.00 would equal 1 pound. So in other words if you bought a McDonald's hamburger in England it would be double of what it costs here. The exchange rate changes daily and you can find out by doing a search for exchange rates and which country you want it to be for and it will give it to you for that day.
