Um yeah emo is a bad thing. It means that you are depressed and that you cut your wrists, and some emos i think like worship the antichrist

Maybe they weren't your friends after all, I don't know. My sister and her friends were all emo in high school, and my sister is now almost 20 and is getting away from it. I don't think emo is bad necessarily, but I've noticed that some people my sister went to high school with are still hanging on to this identity they had in high school and it's affecting their ability to get jobs and some are even dropping out of college. It seems like something that keeps you from having a happy, normal life is not good, and neither is something that keeps you stuck in your teen years. Maybe your friends are afraid that you will end up like that, and they don't know what to say. Instead of labeling yourself emo, can't you just be yourself? I'm sure there is so much more to you than emo. Being emo kept a lot of people from realizing what a talented writer and photographer my sister is, including my sister. Getting away from that in high school helped her be what she wants to be. (I'm 41, by the way, so you know where my opinion comes from)

i wouldntsay emo is a bad thing, if its something you're happy with, this idea that an emo is someone who cuts themselves is just stereotypical, along with saying that only emos wear skinny jeans and have dyed black hair which is swept to one side and this idea that emos are people who try to kill themselves is ridiculous, people are suicidal for a number of different reason, not to prove that they are part of a social group. don't go thinking suicidal thoughts or start cutting yourself because you think its the only way to fit in. There isn't a checklist or set of guidelines you need to adhere to to be classed as emo, some people like the look, some like the style etc you're saying you've "discovered" you're an emo, yet you dont seem to know what one is, if you like the look, music, status, then by all means, carry on if you're happy to, but don't turn self harm or anything like that, i know you've said you dont want to, so best you just keep it that way and dont do it

i dont think its a bad thing, it just means you're emotional. and if you really think you're emo its best not to go around saying. "Hi i'm emo Isnt that cool." Real emo people are too sad to even get out of the house sometimes much less tell everyone they are emo. Now if you just mean you're clothing style and music choice then definately no its not bad.

If you are in high school, it's a big deal, but after that, most people are mature enough to not get their knickers in a twist over stuff like that. The teen years are a time to figure out who you are, and too many kids get side-tracked into identifying with groups rather than discovering themselves as unique individuals. Be yourself, and forget the groups.

Emo is a fad. It means something to a few people who are aware of it, and it means nothing to most people who have never even heard of it.

Being anything other than just "being" is a bad thing. As soon as you label yourself as one thing your whole way of thinking becomes limited to that one thing. You have been trained to think this way by society/school. I set you free. You're welcome.
