Just to add to "sensible", try to use a fine cut blade in any saw that you use. That will give you a smooth edge after the cut.

Draw a line where you want to cut and then go over the line a few times with a sharp utility knife. This will prevent the surface from "fraying" when you cut. Clamp a "straight edge" to the surface, set at the correct distance of the saw blade, to get a straight cut. Keep the saw against the straight edge and your cut will be straight.

just put some 2" wide masking or painters tape on both sides of the door where you want to cut, cut threw the tape. no jagged edges, use a fine tooth saw blade.

One way to get straight clean cuts on flat surfaces is to securely sandwich the panel between working scrap then cut, this will eliminate any chipping or jags.

If you want a good cut and it is square or round you have to use MI and M2 right and left hand snips. Buy a good set like WISS. If you buy a cheap set you will get a cheap type cut

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/T0OSg
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.
