Because the quality of the rock that is coming out is at a much lower level than it was say, back in the '70s when zep and people like that were cranking out stuff. Now it's a bunch of depressed boys with lipstick on singing about their girlfriends dying. Also, the quality of musicianship has really dropped from guys like clapton and hendrix to the point where Pete Wentz is considered a great bassist (he's really not people, I could smoke about 3 blunts and still smoke him). That is why people say rock is fading.

People have been proclaiming it dead for some time. Personally I feel that's not the case at all, but times have changed. To my knowledge, pop sells better these days, and that's been the case for years. And most of today's rock bands just don't do it for me. Having said that, I still love lots of classic rock, and not all of today's rock is generic or unoriginal.

the reason that people say rock is dying is because every sh***y band that can't play their instruments to save their lives are calling themselves rock.
the problem is that rock used to be selective (to a point) and it didn't have all these stupid "pop" rock or "alternative" rock names. the name of rock is meaning less and less these days, and when a good band comes along it gets compared with a band that should still be playing in their garage...without amps.
rock is dying to a point, but it's more the name of rock than the genre itself. if we get rid of all these crappy bands, we might be able to save it.
i say the same thing for rap, but don't get me started on that..

No, but I see what you are saying. I'm 17 and part of the new generation and even I know better than to listen to (c)rap. It's just what the little white kids nowadays like.

(I'm an 70's rock 80's metal freak) I haven't paid much attention to the new music but most bands were best in the early yrs. like Metallica, (but I do love Slayer's old & new stuff).

Yes, people say that. It's stupid isnt it? (x Look, I'll explain it. Our rock isn't the same... And Simple Plan, green day, avril lavigne are not "old rock"... Like elvis, pearl jam, you know... But I love this new rock. And it can be not that old rock, but it's our rock :) Your question's my question , kiss *
