alright so it starts off as

n/3-5=n/4+2n
then i got this by multiplying everything by 12
4n-60=3n+24

now i have absoloutly no idea what to do after this.
my algebra teacher isnt very good at explaining this, and we have finals coming up

so could you work the problem out for me step by step?
thanks so much.

unote that
if it is
n/3-5=n/4+2n ( there is 2n)
so after multiplication * 12 it will be
4n -60 =3n +24n
4n -60 =27n (subtract 4 n from both sides)
-60 = 27n-4n
-60 =23n (divise both sides by 23)
n= -60/23

If your initial equation is correct, then after multiplying by 12 you have:

4n-60=3n+24n (you missed out the final n)

Next, you need to have all the unknowns (n) on one side of the equation, and the number on the other. So, first of all, subtract 4n from both sides, giving:

-60 = 3n + 24n - 4n

Then just add up those multiples of n on the right, giving:

-60 = 23n

so n = -60/23

If in fact you mistakenly put the last n on the original equation, and the second one (after multiplying by 12) is correct, then it's a bit easier, so I suspect that might be correct. If you have

4n - 60 = 3n + 24

Then first, subtract 3n from both sides, giving:

4n - 3n - 60 = 24

Now add 60 to both sides, giving:

4n - 3n = 24 + 60

Then n = 84.

n/3 -5 = n/4+2n
12(n/3 -5) = 12(n/4+2n)
4n-60 = 3n+24n
4n-60 = 27n
4n-27n = 60
-23n = 60
n = 60/-23 or 2 14/-23

Sure. Good way to start. What you do to one side of the equal sign you must do to the other. Let’ subtract 3n from each side:

n-60=24

Let’s add 60 to each side:

n=84

4n-60=3n+24n
4n - 60= 27n
4n - 27n = 60
- 23n = 60
n = - 60/23
