Good to see you back, dude.
Match 1: Nunzio vs. Chuck Palumbo
Winner: Palumbo
Reason: It's against Nunzio, the man's never been a big deal in any promotion, whereas Chuck P's getting push
Analysis: Good opening bout, should be a solid squash, shouldn't last longer than 5 minutes.
***1/2
Match 2: Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio - RES Cruiserweight Championship
Winner: Chavo
Reason: I'm just a mark for the Gory Bomb, plus I've always wanted to see Chavito get a serious push, and the cruiserweight title could be a push in the right direction in the RES
Analysis: These two have great chemistry, and put on an overlooked clinic on any card. I would give'em 15 minutes of match time. Chavo would win off of a West Coast Pop reversed into a Gory Special, and then the Bomb.
***** Possible MotN candidate
Match 3: Finlay vs. CM Punk
Winner: Finlay
Reason: I have no idea, but it makes sense in my head, and I'm sure WWE would put Fit over Punk.
Analysis: This could be an interesting clash of old and new school, or a disaster of booking. I really wonder how Dave Finlay would do against a guy like Punk. It could be interesting.
**1/2 A very indecisive, yet possible, good match. This could be the most creative and successful booking ever, or a recipe for ratings disaster.
Match 4: Mickie James vs. Melina - RES Womens Championship
Winner: Oh Mickie, you're so fine, you're so fine, you make out with chicks, HEY MICKIE! *clap-clap clap-clap*
Reason: Melina's a really decent woman's competitor, and a heel diva coming into her own in the ring and on the mic, but James is, has, and probably always will be over with the crowd. At mania, they chanted her name while she was going against Trish AS A HEEL! And Stratus may be the most over babyface diva ever, so that says a lot.
*** A good solid woman's match, not a "diva contest", but woman's match.
Match 5: Jeff Hardy vs. Mick Foley - RES Hardcore Championship
Winner: Jeff
Reason: Hardy could benefit from a win over Mickles, and would be a new breed of hardcore champion. I could see him getting over like old school X Division, back when they mixed good wrestling with high spots...man, TNA's changed...
Analysis: I think this match could deliver a hardcore clinic that fans would enjoy. Both men are spot monkeys to some degree, and the fan's love that stuff from both of them. I see Jeff winning from Foley taking a sick bump off of the Tron and through some "electrical equipment" at rampside followed by an unnecessary, yet mark-worthy high risk Swanton the likes of which we haven't seen since TNA.
**1/2 It'll be a sloppy spotfest, because I can't see these two meshing well, but they'd keep the audience's attention, no question.
Match 6: Batista vs. Carlito
Winner: Batista
Reason: Squash
Analysis: Smells like squash and berries in here
1/2*, It's not so much that it would be a bad match, it would just be a short match that serves no purpose, other than to further bury Carlito down the card. I'm almost considering not rating it, because a squash of this magnitude isn't worth remembering or acknowledging.
Match 7: Londrick vs. Kane & Undertaker - RES Tag Team Championship
Winners: Brothers of Destruction
Reason: Stereo Squash
Analysis: I've always been opposed to pushing the Brothers of Destruction as a serious tag team. Not only does it hurt the tag division, it deprives both of these men, and the World title division of competitors. Londrick would put up a fight, only to get a stereo chokeslam to hell, which is exactly where their careers, this division, and Kane and Taker's singles heat is going after this match.
1/2*
Match 8: Elijah Burke vs. Bobby Lashley
Winner: Blaster Lashley
Reason: For the past 6 months, Burke's been nothing but a Ghost Busting jobber mouth piece. As much as I like the kid (and as much as I think he's more deserving of a push than Shelton), he's not in Lashley's league as far as booking goes. Bobby's upper midcard, Burke's lower midcard at best these days.
Analysis: This could be a really great match. Both men are prone to brawling, it could be a real back-and-forth Pier 6. Lashley wins via spearing out of the corner during an Elijah Express attempt
***
Match 9: John Cena vs. Triple H
Winner: H
Reason: Cena's off of an injury, and after the Batista return fiasco, I question if Cena's going to come back with the same face heat. I think he'll be okay, but even then, Trips has pulled himself up the card (and fairly, I might add)
Analysis: Could be a great match, and possible MotN candidate if given time. People give Cena too much guff, the kid's not that bad. Trips wins via F-U, "Bah gawd, King!, he beat'em with his own finisher"
*****
Match 10: Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge - RES World Championship
Winner: Edge
Reason: Although Michaels has more heat then both of these men right now, I really want to see how Edge runs with a long title reign.
Analysis: Triple Threats are hard to pull off, but I think these three could do it. All three have chemistry and experience with one another. I could see it leading to a feud between Edge and HBK, the Moral Christian v. the Corrupt Lecher Rockstar, practically books itself.
*****
Rate Todays RES Connection (0-5) I'll give this a four star card. I'm rounding up a bit, but you really earned it. Good, solid booking.
