As long as the GOVERNMENT is running this country there is no hope in site. Lets take the Iraq war we are over there for one reason OIL. George W Bush is in bed with the oil company and is now the top share holder in a major oil company so you tell me we are not at war the soldiers over in Iraq are what we call peace keepers. So why do they keep saying they need more money to fight the Iraq war if we are not at war.

It depends how one define and live democracy. A coalition style democracy like in Italy had and still has its flaws. I think that In very big countries like Russia and China (Russia is not a real democracy if you know what I mean) a one party system supposedly helps against the disintegration of the country (not to defend the Chinese system!).
It wonder if a big country like the US could handle a more party system democracy where you really have a choice?
Europe (with the exception of the UK?) has a more party democratic system where in order to get the votes one should stand in the middle of the political spectrum.
Still, it's still better to have a 2 party "democracy" than no democracy at all in the US.

America has never been a democracy. Where do people get that idea? Government schools, I guess. America is a republic. We elect representatives to pass laws and redistribute our earnings. If you don't like the people who allegedly represent you vote for someone else and campaign for them. Convince others to support the candidate you feel is best for the job. I believe that someday we will elect a political candidate who cares ore about the people who elected him than the large corporations.

John Edwards is trying to swim against that tide. Furthermore the last 2 US prez "elections" were shams, regardless of the funding of "elections". THAT is the first problem that MUST be cured even BEFORE the funding problem is addressed. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

It is we Americans that made this a 2 party system. If we would stop following the herd and elect more 3rd parties, we could see some change. Emphasis on could.

it is a form of democracy...not a true democracy....powerful people get more democracy than others....vote Democratic to get rid of Republicans then vote Independent...we need to break the power of corporations over us and I think at this time the only real answer is to accept the devils in the Democratic party...for now
