Mine is definitely
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Vader being revealed as Luke's Father is, IMO< the greatest plot twist of all time. And it was just so much darker than Episode IV.
I saw it in a theater on it's release date, after waiting four hours in line, and it has been My favorite movie ever since.
So how about You, what's your favorite Film?

Oh Darth your questions are so hard to answer! How am I supposed to pick just one?
Classic: Breakfast at Tiffany's, The original Wizard of Oz
Action/Fiction/Love: Natural Born Killers, True Romance
Horror: the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Blair Witch Project (I was lucky enough to see it at a pre-screening and no one knew it wasn't real the entire theater left in silence)
Comedy:Don't be a Menace to South Central while drinking Your Juice in the Hood, A Christmas Story
War: Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Red Dawn, Hamburger Hill
Drama: A River Runs Through it, Dances With Wolves, The Notebook, The Titanic
Action: Gladiator, 300
Sci Fi: All the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
See Darth... much too hard to pick even just one in each category...Kisses :)
I guess If I had to pick one of these it would be Gladiator, The reason: It was beautifully filmed. The action scenes were very realistic. The story was wonderful.. a man lost everything he ever loved and arose to fight the ones responsible..only to die in the end and finally be with his beautiful wife and child again... just heart warming.

Darth... how can I have just one favourite?!
Musical : 'Singing In the Rain'
Why : Gene Kelly! Both the songs and the dance numbers are timeless classics, guaranteed to have me singing along.
Comedy : 'Kind Hearts and Coronets'
Why : One of the greatest of the Ealing Comedies, and featuring the very under-rated Dennis Price.
War : 'The Great Escape' / 'Battle of Britain'
Why : They both have outstanding casts. GE has the best of both British and American actors, and BB has some stellar British tallent.
Thriller ~ Espionage : 'Live and Let Die' / 'Q Planes'
Why : One of my favourite James Bond films ~ just because!
Q Planes stars the wondufully ecentric Ralph Richardson.
Childrens : 'Watership Down'
Why : One of the first animated films I ever saw, great cast list, a plot that doesn't date.
Horror : 'Wolfen' / 'The Company of Wolves'
Why : Two of my favourite werewolf films. The first is out-and-out horror, the second a psycholigical retelling of 'Little Red Riding Hood'.
Epic : 'Around the World in 80 Days' {David Niven}
Why : Classic, Classic, Classic! And another great roll-call of cameos.
Disney : 'Robin Hood' / 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks'
Why : The animation, the songs, the voices / actors.
There are so many other films I could have chosen!
Edit :~
Documentary film : 'Stripper'
Why : It was filmed in 1984, following the contestants for the first ever 'Golden G-String' stripping competition. The actual reason why ~ you would have to see it!

Dune
It's my favorite book also. The special effects are nothing like today but for 1984 they were pretty good. I saw this in the theater and also have Lynch's directors cut which is a much longer movie than what was released to the theater.
The movie has an awesome ensemble cast - Francesca Annis, Jose Ferrer, Kyle McLachlan, Sean Young, Sting, Patrick Stewart, Linda Hunt, Virginia Madsen and Jurgen Prochnow just to name a few.

Star Wars, the first and original. Better known today as Episode IV : A New Hope.
I must have been 4 or 5 years old when my parents took me to see it. I remember there was this light show just before the film started and there was also a loud, deafening noise. It scared the crap out of me.
A couple of years later, after Empire came out, i started buying the action figures and ships with my pocket money

This depends on what day it is. I've always loved GLORY.-
- The Dresser (great acting, cool story) - Virginia Woolf's "Orlando" is one of the best adaptions...
- For space movies, Empire was my personal favorite, because the characters had already been established in Part IV; and this one was constant action -- BUT -- my truly sentimental favorite for Space movies is1972's Silent Running w/Bruce Dern. For those who haven't seen it - it's about a space-botanist, taking care of the remaining Forests, Deserts, and Jungles, that have been dug-up; and sent into space until the "Paved-Over" Earth can decided what to do with them - Sad story, but remarkably creative, considering the budget at that time.

The Sound of Music.
edit; whoops, I didn't say why, hehe. Sorry Darth.
I love the story - a Nun leaves the place that she feels such security, and goes to look after children - then ends up falling in love with their father. It's just a lovely story, the way that she tries to resist what she is feeling but in the end, she cannot.
The love story between Liesl and Rolfe is just touching. As are the problems they encounter.
All the songs are beautifully sung, very catchy and leave me singing for days. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II are geniuses.
It has drama. It has humour. The actors and actresses are just phenomenal.
It's just wow.

Almost Famous.
That movie is what fueled me to be a journalist and is what made me have a deeper appreciation for rock music.
That was also the first time I fell in love with a screen character... William Miller.
I still have great admiration for the role that Kate Hudson played (Penny Lane). I love it how they refer to themselves as "Band-Aids" and not groupies. It gives them a bit more dignity I guess. I have to be honest, if I were around bands like that, I'd definitely be a band-aid.
Anyway, the plot, the characters, the setting, the band... just a great, fantastic movie.

Harold & Maude ranks high. Possibly #1 out of my top 5 of all time. Great dark comedy.
Why? Because the message of the story is beautiful: Love is blind. The world should see this film. 70s cult favorite. (plus, the Cat Stevens soundtrack fits it PERfectly. It's so much of its time)

Superman II ... There aren't too many movies with decent fight scenes these days like Superman II had, except for Indiana Jones and the Lethal Weapon series of sequels.
Superman II had three villians to fight Superman, pretty cool concept.
