my little boy is 3 weeks tomorrow and he is already guzzling down 5 ozs at each feed, i breast feed, bottle feed breast milk and give him formula (SMA gold).

is it right for him to want so much, he is sometimes only going 2 1/2 hours between feeds and if he had a 5 oz bottle he will follow this 2 hours later with a 4 oz or at least just over 3 ozs.

i did try the SMA white but found it made him a little constipated after just 1 bottle.

has anyone else had similar situation?

if so what did you do?

thanks

My daughter was the same....
sometimes there going through a growth spurt... my health nurse gave me a hand out on how many ounces they should get at different ages and it helped me to see that my daughter had a normal appetite...3-8 weeks old will have 6-8 bottles of 3-4 ounces of milk in a day which gives a total of 18-32 ounces a day...try to calculate it and see how much your baby is really eating...
babies also like to suck so try giving a pacifier....i give one after her feed of 4-5 ounces
they say babies will eat and eat if its milk and over feed when really they just want to suck....
plus you say your boy gets constipated after one bottle of formula....i thought the same but breast milk goes through the baby a lot faster and formula takes a lot longer...my daughter might poop once a day or every 2 days which is normal so as long as it soft and not hard then he should be fine...
i also would say to stop the bottle feeds if you were planning on breast feeding for a long time.....your supply will diminish soon unless you pump and feed your boy from the breast all the time....either pump or feed from breast...if giving formula make sure you pump....good luck....and relax your doing a good job.

My son had 5oz of sma white every hour he wouldn't take no more or no less i just put up with til he was about 13 weeks old and started giving him rusk and baby rice he is 21 month now and he isn't chubby just tall for his age so i think thats why he was so hungry.
All i can suggest is you do the same 10 weeks is a long time but i dont think there is anything else that you can do. Hold in there it will get better

Some newborns need more frequent feedings. My daughter would often nurse for 30-40 minutes, take a 20 minute catnap, then wake up to nurse again. Babies need to be fed on cue rather than on some arbitrary schedule. They know how much and how often they need milk! You might also want to consider just nursing for a while until your milk supply is established

I think it's fine but ask your doctor just to make sure. Some babies will overeat because the sucking sooths them. With my baby I have to stop her from eating because if I don't she would probably eat a liter of breastmilk. If you burp your baby after you feed and there is not alot of spitup than it should be fine. As long as your baby is having the proper amounts of wet diapers.

Try and stick with the breat feeding sounds like you doing great. Breast fed babies feed on demand and can be 'demanding'. If he's happy and gaining weight and your midwife is happy enjoy your lovely baby.
