Hum... depends on how good his gear is and the weather... we have had to make camp under an overpass, Thank God we could find one! Mother nature can throw you some awful curves, not to mention the one's man throws! Hopefully he will get as far as he plans to! Pacing one's self is a must here! I will say a bikers prayer for him, try not to worry!

In the olden days (1970s) they used to say that a 'touring bike' was any bike you could bungee a sleeping bag to. In those days motorcycles were mostly general-purpose. If you wanted a sport bike you got a little bullet fairing, low handlebars, stiffer shocks and more aggressive tires, and there you were. If you wanted a touring bike you'd get a Vetter or Windjammer fairing, a set of bags, and maybe a custom seat. The basic bike was the same. But today bikes are more specialized. A true sportbike, a GSX-R or R6 or CBR, would make a crappy touring bike. But there are bikes that are built with an eye to touring. Basically any bike that comes with a big fairing and bags. The Honda Goldwing is almost unopposed in its category. The Harley Road King is another one. These are almost like 2-wheeled yachts. 8^) There is another category called 'sport touring', meaning a sport bike that you could ride more than 20 min. without needing a chiropractor. Sport-touring was pioneered by BMW back in the 70s/80s, a bike that was relatively sporty, you could throw it into corners, enjoy a mountain road, but it was still comfortable enough to spend all day in the saddle, and could easily carry two people plus luggage. There are a number of bikes that are made for this today. The Honda ST1300 is more touring than sport. A Suzuki V-STROM is more sport than touring, but both are in this category.

I hope that he is going with group. As a mother that would worry me sick. I wish him luck.
If you mean that he is an Atheist by saying that he is one of those ''bump in the dark'' people. I would not worry about that. Atheists have their minds and their eyes wide open. In all the years that I have been one I never bumped my head in the dark or otherwise.

He will get as far away as he wants. This will help him grow up and get away from you. We have sons and we have daughters and they live with us for a short time. We don't own them and think less of their decisions. Some of our children learn on their own minds and learn what they want.
Wish him well from me and my prayers are with him. Tell him to see the world, cause it is big and beautiful and have a great big life.
And tell him good show and don't come back until you have turned all the stones.

If he is heading east, I doubt if he is on the road two days before turning around. We have a forecast of 17 inches of snow coming for Indiana. He better ride south along the Gulf.

Hopefully he will realize how many miles there are crossing the states and return home!

He'd make me a basketcase, LOL. My oldest was a daredevil too and made me a nervous wreck

There are those who learn by watching others, and then there are those who "learn by doing." Sounds like he fits into the latter category. In answer to your question, he'll probably make it through New Mexico. He should be home in no time!
