hi
My best suggestion is to buy a new stand.
You could also wrap a box or a brick or somthing the right it wrapping paper so it will look like a present. Put that where the leg goes to prop it up. People may never notice

My favorite way to get a Christmas tree is from a grower. It might be a little late for that, this year though. So you need some advice on buying one that's already cut, probably at a lot.
Here's an excerpt from the National Christmas Tree Association's web page:
10 "QUICK" TIPS ON SELECTING A TREE AT A RETAIL LOT
Use the practical tips to be a more informed consumer and to ensure a great experience with your Real Tree:
1. Be sure you know what size (height and width) you need before heading to the retail lot.
2. If you want the same species you know or have always used, great. If you want to try a different species, browse the NCTA website www.realchristmastrees.org to become familiar with the species popular in your area before heading to the retail lot.
3. Go to a retail lot that is well-lit and stores trees in a shaded area.
Their other 7 tips are the rest of the story. To read them, click here:
http://www.christmastree.org/selection.cfm
Most of all, don't be discouraged by other writers' negative comments. By following the right advice, you could purchase a Real tree at Thanksgiving, and keep it in the house as a lovely, safe decoration through New Year's!
Merry Christmas!

I had bought mail order Xmas trees with great success many times.
If you'd never done before, here is a mini guide for you so that you will see how much easier a mail order Christmas tree can make your lives better during the holiday season.
1) Tell you family about your plans to buy a mail order Xmas tree this year (and getting their full approval).
You can go online to check out some relevant websites that sell fresh Christmas tree offerings from locations near your living place. It's very comfortable that you can have all these choices in front of your home computer!
ii) Verify couple of important things before buying a mail order tree.
Check with the supplier to see how the trees would be shipped. It's important that they be professionally packaged and handled with care so as not to arrive with broken branches or other damage. Also make sure the tree will be preserved in a way that they wouldn't start showing the effects of lack of water.
Then double check for your Christmas tree to be delivered with brown patches all over it.
iii) Choose a farm where you want to purchase the fresh tree, then call your family around the computer to work out the details (size, type, etc.) together.
After you are all satisfied, finish the purchase and wait for your very first mail order Christmas tree to arrive.
The beauty is that the mail order tree is just as beautiful and perfectly preserved as the website promise once it finally get your home!
Pretty much simple huh?

Keep the tree away from a heating vent or fireplace. Make sure the tree has lots of cold water.

Just keep it watered and add about a teaspoon of sugar each time you do. Supposedly the sugar is like sap and sap is what nourishes them. It's when all their sap is dried up that they start to die.
