it doesnt really get on my nerves...like i barely say "xmas" like if im typing on aim or something and im typing something really long then i will type in xmas instead of christmas...but i never actually say the word xmas i say christmas. and actually it is saying something bad about christmas. bc the X symbolizes christ in greek or a certain language...but in english the letter X means extreme or ughh sorry i cant remember what it is exactly bc in class we talked about this on thursday...uhmm but saying Xmas is very rude and disrespectful to jesus...that part im positive is correct

No. Mind your own business and quit trying to control everyone else. And for the person below - your jesus may be the reason for *your* season - but the Winter Solstice is the reason for my season. :)

Using Xmas for Christmas used to bother me a lot then I learned that X is really a common and ancient Greek abbreviation for Christ.

Jesus Christ in Greek is ΙΗΣΟΥΣ ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ and written in the English alphabet is "IHCOYC XPICTOC" or "IHSOYS XPISTOS"

Starting in the third century the nomina sacra, or names of Jesus, were sometimes shortened by contraction in Christian inscriptions, resulting in sequences of Greek letters such as:

+ Jesus +
I (iota)
IH (iota eta)
IC (iota sigma) (first and last letter)
IHC (iota eta sigma)
IHS (iota eta sigma)
JH (iota eta)
JC (iota sigma)
JHC (iota eta sigma)
JHS (iota eta sigma)

+ Christ +
X (chi)
XP (chi rho)
XC (chi sigma) (first and last letter)
XPC (chi rho sigma)
XPS (chi rho sigma)

+ Jesus Christ +
IX
IC XC
IHS XPS
JX
JC XC
JHS XPS

The Greek letter sigma has been translated as both "C" and "S"
The Greek letter iota has been translated as both "I" and "J"

If abbreviating the name of Jesus Christ is good enough for the ancient Christian catacombs then I will let Xmas slide.

With love in Christ.

NO! The holiday was taken over by the Christian faith but it's origins are pagan.

No

X is Greek for Christos/Christ. Nothing offensive about it at all.
