To extend his baseball career.?

Tommy John was 288-231 in his career, far better than most pitchers in the HOF. Pitched for championship teams, 3 time 20 game winner, in the top 5 in ERA 6 times...better record than Robin Roberts, Jim Bunning ect. Can think a another reason why John is not in the HOF.

Thats an interesting way to look at it. If you use the logic everyone uses with the steroid controversy I think the answer would be yes. Further more, how about the discovery of drugs like penicillin. Before the these drugs became available, an athlete who got sick, would be out for possibley months, and if the disease was seriously enough, maybe his whole career. Should they be punished for using performance enhancers like antibiotics for extending their careers?
Baseball is a business, people pay to see homeruns, more steroids=more homeruns. Why would you not want to see ungodly huge angry men competing against one another.

There's a big difference between having surgery done to fix an injury sustained while playing the game, and taking performance enhancing drugs that will earn you a spot next to a bull at your local rodeo.

But to answer your question, no.

Definitely not. So many pitchers go through surgery, if not all baseball players in general.

He was a good player, but not HOF material. He's got a famous surgical procedure named after him, that's good enough, haha.

Given that he's been on the ballot 14 times through this year, the answer appears to be No.

Good career. Not a great one. Not going to get elected.

Dr. Jobe probably deserves induction though.
