My twin cut herself..I just noticed...I know she is a little depressed about a guy she likes, but isn't this a little too far?
And for all of you who are going to say that it's for attention, you're wrong. She goes out of her way to stay invisible to the larger crowd.

People sometimes have so much emotional pain that the try to match it with physical pain, because its a pain that you can understand not like the emotiona one. This isn't to far, in fact, it may be the only thing that is keeping herself together. The only thing that will really help her is a long talk with someone but not parents, sibling or friends: stranger like psychologists and psychiatrists which she will be confident in their secrecy. Also she might need some psychiatric drugs to help her control her feelings.

My younger sister use to cut herself all the time , and eve trye dcommiting suicide, she was very depressed with her life, she ways having a hrad time in school, and with friend, and with her home life, i think some people well, i know she did it cause she could not cope with all the hurt in her life that was happening at tha time. We took her to the doctors and they said she was suverly depressed and had to go on medication, and the doctor said watch her closly for she might try more sever things.. After awhile of her cuting herself about a couple mouths, she tryed to kill her self by over dosing on pills, and drink and tied herself to the train track, and it was all beacsue this older boy had such a hold on her and played mind games with her, so it is no FORM WHAT SO EVER of ATTENTION, it is of things happening tot he person int here life, and thats how they deal with it.

People cutting themselves is a disturbing new trend especially in the youth of society. My niece used to do that and I have talked to people that do it and they say the pain they inflict on themselves and especially if they cut deep enough to bleed releases some of the pain they feel inside. I think it shows a deep need for anger management and therapy. These people usually think that no one would understand what they are feeling. Talk to your twin because talking things through and learning that people DO understand is so much better than scarring your body and hurting yourself.

People cut themselves to focus on the pain on the outside and to get away from the pain inside. Some even thing if they bleed some of the pain in their soul will come out. Your twin needs to seek professional help with this.

Okay don't listen to any "emo" callers. Emo stands for "emotional". It is used to label teenagers and children who fall victim to extreme levels of depression. Some of these young people do tend to cut themselves, usually along the underside of the wrist in hopes to bleed to death. Even adults get to this level of unhappiness. It is not uncommon these days for her case, crushing on a boy, to cause this. Some people take love/romance as one of the most important things in their life and this seems to be the case here. I really hoped this helped a bit.

some people have no way of coping with their feelings, and some people just feel relived when they cut themselves..
i think you should talk to her and really ask her what's wrong, try to help her.
ask her if she wants to see a counselor, even if it's the one at school. it helps to be able to talk to people who are going threw the same thing your going threw. if and when you talk to her, try to put yourself in their position and don't call her dumb for cutting herself, tell her there's better ways to cope with how she's feeling, that doesn't involve her hurting herself.

i used to cut myself when i was younger and even now at age 30 i still have thoughts about doing it. Esp when im extremely stressed out, i actually tried to explain the purpose to my husband recently, when you cut yourself it kinda is a release of pain. when im feeling really low and hurt emotionally i feel like i have no control over that pain, but if i were to cut myself or pull my hair out that would be a type of pain that i was in control of, also it takes it from the insubstanstial pain of emotion and make it a substanstial pain in the physical form. it offers a level of self control of a situation i may not have control of in any other way. i tried to explain it to my husband like this, when one of our kids say my head hurts he says if i step on your foot you wont be thinkin of the pain in your head... so its kinda like that where if my heart is hurting, but i cut my leg, i dont focus on the pain in my heart cus im thinkin about the pain in my leg. Another thing when we as ppl feel pain our bodies release endorphins and adereline that aleviates the pain as a surviaval mechanism. like when ppl get into a fight, and dont feel any pain till after the fight is over and things are calmed down. those are some reasons why ppl cut themselves. its not okay but it rarely leads to death or sickness in itself, but it can be a cry for real help when someone is truly in a deep depression. i got "caught" cuttin when i was a teen and my foster parent had me 302'ed meaning i was put into a mental hospital against my will. the therapy helped at that point and i didnt have the desire to cut my self for a long time but like i said when things get really difficult to deal with even now as a grown woman, wife and mother i still want to cut myself. hopefully i was able to give some insight to what your twin maybe going thru mentally and emotionally. i hope she gets thru the pain she is in now.

also a lot of the ppl answering here are talkin about the need to bleed and i know personally i was never lookin for blood or hoping to die or bleed to death. i dont know where they get their info and it may or may not be correct but in my case i never thought about the blood at all.

it takes away the pain, and reality of real life. It makes her forget her problems. Just one little cut and she'll keep goin until shes drained of her blood. :|

It's sad, but people seem to find interest in physically hurting themselves. However, to be honest a mental hospital is more deranged than you think. It's hell on Earth. Personal advice, here.
