I have a desktop with the following configuration:
System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service pack 2

Computer:
AMD Athlon(™) XP 2200+
1.80 GHz, 768 MB of RAM

Video Card:
MSI Nvidia Geforce4 MX440
64 MB DDR
Video-In/TV-Out
Dual VGA

Motherboard:
MSI Nvidia Nforce 2 Chipset Basede
K7N2 Delta
DDR Dual Channel 400
AGP 8X

I would like to upgrade due to inability of video card to process newest games: FEAR, Battlefield 2142, etc.

What do you suggest to achieve this goal? I am a novice with knowledge enough to install memory, video cards, etc., but not enough knowledge to configure anything without help.

Thanks for your help.

Sure, like others say , you can put a big AGP card in and max out your ram but you still have a cpu that isn't gonna cut it. COD4 requires at least a 2.4, Crysis a 2.8. Instead of spending 100s on that rig I suggest you save up for new computer if you want to run the latest and greatest because you're simply not going to be able to with that rig and the ones you can run wont run well

its clear that you dont have a motherboard that supports AM2, which is unfortunate because right now thats the cheapest, most effective way to go.

first upgrade the processor, if you can, to at least 2.3ghz
upgrade your ram, you are really low, i always have a minimum of 2gigs of ram.
upgrade your graphics card.

you can get all of this cheap from newegg.com

i would recommend for the long run, upgrading to an AM2 motherboard with at least a AMD x2 4800+, and since your a gamer, i would get a mobo that has SLI enabled with PCI-e. this will allow you to run 2 graphics cards together. (talk about fast). you could get a new mobo, ram(2gig), cpu, and graphics card for about $350.

that $350 would basically build you a new, fast, and up to date computer.

to be stright you need a new system all together.
to run fear you should be using pci E, agp will not do very well. and your cpu is old and not up to games such as fear.

dual core. two gigs of ram and a 7600 nvidia card or higher.

Hi. Add more RAM, get a faster GPU (I'm an ATI fan. I use a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and F.E.A.R. plays well.) You can get a faster CPU or overclock the FSB. Have fun!
